REVIEW: "Thank you so much. You know how to keep an Internet company personal. You can be assured that I will use your services in the future and tell all my friends to do the same!! What a breath of fresh air." Tina

AGE RANGE: This 5 Senses game is for 5-8 years old. However, there are enough activities provided that will challenge sleuths up to about 10-12 depending on their sleuthing skills.

OVERVIEW: Welcome to What Happened to Cleodore the Cat? where you will become Dr. Sleuth to lead the children through a fun and amazing journey of their 5 senses to help Cleodore regain her senses.

We’d like to encourage you to dress up and do your best impression of the zany Dr. Sleuth. She (or he) is known for wearing huge hats, loud colors, busy patterns and lots of creatively mismatched outfits. Dig deep and discover your inner Dr. Sleuth! It will add so much to the party.

The party begins with Dr. Sleuth and her cat Cleodore (a cute little stuffed animal or hand puppet will do unless you have a very cooperative feline) introducing the children to the mystery:

“Oh, thank gribbiness you are finally here!! I just got back from Prehistoric Times. A T-Rex lost a bone and called on me to help her find it. Turns out this crafty little Stego…Oh wait. That’s right…The Five Senses Mystery! So much to tell you and so little time. So listen up. It would appear that a mad band of mystery bandits (Booo!) have been very, very naughty. Early this morning five of the sneakiest, craftiest and zoinkiest bandits stole my cat’s Five Senses!!!!! Do you know what that means??? He might never smell the pungent scent of cat food again. He will miss the beautiful sounds of his cat friends screeching when their heads get slammed in the refrigerator door after running madly about for no apparent reason. He will eat, but not taste. He will touch, but not feel. He will look, but not see. Oh (hand dramatically to my forehead), I (sniff) could just (sniff) cry…But, I won’t! It is your MISSION, my youthful sleuths, to collect all the information you can on the Five Senses and to teach Cleodore (that’s my cat, darlings) to sense again. Without his sight he keeps walking into the furniture. It is so sad…

At the end of the party the youth sleuths will present Dr. Sleuth and Cleodore with some or all projects they have created during the party. At this point Cleodore (um, that would be you oh master puppeteer speaking as Cleo) can thank each youth sleuth personally and present them each with a party favor, certificate, tiny stuffed Cleodore of their own (we like this idea best), or a cute little kitty kiss from Cleodore.

The Mystery Club party is divided into several 5-10 minute missions (activities) that can take place in one room. (It is great for a rainy day or indoor party!) Of course you can utilize your entire house, yard, and even your neighbors’ houses if you like.

You will set up several Mission Stations in one room or throughout your home depending on how you want to utilize your space. Each mission will challenge your sleuths to explore their five senses through art, music, dance, science, literature and much, much more. We recommend that sleuths travel in groups of 2-4 members and spend about 10 minutes on each mission. The groups will rotate from mission to mission every 10 minutes or whenever you tell them to. The number of stations that you set up depends on the number of sleuths and the amount of time you have (you can pick and choose missions to best suit your needs). If you have a very large group, consider setting up multiple stations with the same mission so that everyone gets an opportunity to complete all the missions at the party.

There are 8 types of creative, interactive and fun missions which you'll be able to mix and match to make the best party possible for your child:

1. Introductory missions that get the sleuths thinking about all 5 senses
2. “Missions For All Senses” which can be used for any and all of the senses
3. Sight missions
4. Taste missions
5. Hearing missions
6. Touch missions
7. Smell missions
8. Come to your Senses missions which get the sleuths to integrate what they discovered about all 5 senses.
9. Bonus group games (some you'll be familiar with like musical chairs and others may be new to you like "Fruit Basket". All focus on our 5 senses in one way or another.)

As you can see you have lots to choose from to make this party memorable for the children. Select the missions you know the kids will love, buy your Cleodore the cat and find your zany Dr. Sleuth costume and you’ll be well on your way to one fun party!

LENGTH OF THE GAME: It really depends on you. You can select just a few missions for a shorter party or more missions for a longer party. Here's a suggested timeline:

Part One: 45-90 minutes of missions
Part Two: 15-25 minute mealtime, Cake Break or Snack Attack.
Part Three: 30-60 minutes Come to Your Senses Activity

Example Missions:

MISSION: Treat Garlands. Use these garlands to decorate a bush or tree. These make lovely treats for all your woodland friends. You will need:

Set up the station so that each sleuth can thread their yarn with all as many goodies as they like. Encourage them to create a pattern with the treats.

MISSION: 5 Senses Dance Off
Put on some music and have the kids create a 5 senses dance wherein they can do whatever they want so long as they incorporate their 5 senses into their dancing.

*** EXPAND IT: Have a 5 Senses Dance Party. First, allow groups extended time to choreograph and practice their dances. Then, start the game with each group performing their dance and perhaps even teaching it to the rest of the group. Once every group has shown their dances, put on some music and get down!

PRE-GAME PREP TIME: It will take about 4 to 6 hours to prepare this game (includes shopping for supplies, reading and prepping the materials). You mostly need to print the documents included with the kit, obtain/buy supplies (mostly office type supplies, arts and craft items and some books which you should be able to get at your local library). Our facilitator guide provides a supply checklist for you.

"The girls told me that if they had to grade this party on a scale of 1-10, they give it an 11!!! Many others told me its was the greatest party of the year. A few parents called the next day to say that their kids had such a great time that they were still talking about it! I think it helped my son's self esteem more than anything else..." Lisa Marten, Macomb, MI

"It kept those crazy boys busy for 2 hours! A mothers dream! My skeptical husband LOVED it!...You proved you can have a large party and not go insane!!" Mollie Brown, Madison, GA
