OVERVIEW: Each
team must travel throughout the royal kingdom (to 6 locations ranging
from places like The Throne Room to The Globe Theater) to solve the mystery
of the missing Sir Culpeper, Queen Gwendolyn’s
favorite knight (Queen Gwendolyn being you or another female helper). The
knight can be a person, dog, cat or even an inanimate object, that’s
all up to you. At each location, the teams of squires (apprentices)
must complete skills challenges (like sword
fighting with pool noodles or plastic swords), creative challenges
(like making a family crest) and even
a short scavenger hunt in exchange for a clue to Culpepper's
location and identity. Some challenges have the teams competing against
each other for a winner; other challenges have the team members competing
against each other. When the final destination challenge is completed
by all teams, they're given a final clue to where they'll find Culpeper.
The first team to solve the mystery will win a special prize (and yes,
more than one team may figure it out).
I ordered the Medieval Merriment hunt and the kids LOVED it. It was a huge success. The games were age appropriate and challenging at the same time. Karla Enfield, Royse City, TX
NUMBER OF TEAMS: You can have any number of teams* but try to limit the number of members in each team to 6 or less. It works better with smaller teams as each child has a chance to contribute his or her ideas and talents for the next challenge. *This game will work for one team of children; the only change you'll make is instead of teams competing against each other for a few of the challenges you'll have the kids compete against each other. If you have more than 6 teams you'll have to start doubling up the teams at the 6 locations. It shouldn't be a problem but it may get a bit crowded. You may want to think about setting up duplicate locations (2 sword fighting areas for example) to keep things running smoothly for your large group of kids.

NOTE: You will need a minimum of 3 chaperones/helpers as some of the kids may need assistance with some of the challenges and/or some of the challenges will require an adult/teen overseer. If you can encourage the chaperones to dress up like royalty or peasants, the kids will get a kick out of seeing the adults look silly. We highly recommend you enlist good support if you have a large number of kids.
LENGTH OF GAME: From start to finish the game should take about 2 hours. Remember, the more teams you have the longer it will take.
PRE-HUNT PREP TIME: You can put this medieval kids' game together in about 6 hours on average (includes shopping for supplies, reading the game documents and prepping the challenges).
I just wanted to thank you for
the great ideas in your Medieval party kit. I purchased it for my son's
tenth birthday and it was a big hit with the
boys. It was great for
me as a parent to be able to purchase it, add a few items, and be ready
to go in two days! I printed out the rules and the descriptions for
each station and made small booklets tied together with twine, then
stained them with tea bags to give them an aged appearance. These were
the "Squire's Handbooks." Each
boy also received his own foam sword and toy bow and arrow to take
home. They loved it. Thanks again

What a blast! The kids had an awesome day! We started off the morning
by putting the kids into preplanned groups of 3 or 4. Th
ey were all in
costumes based on characters they had researched in class during our
Medieval Times unit in Social Studies. The kids and the parents only
had good things to say about the day. Whenever anyone said where did
you get the idea for this, I made sure I mentioned your website. Thank
you so much for taking the time to share your ideas online. I'm sure
I will be accessing some of your other activities at another time. Thanks,
again! Judy Cruise, Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada
